Medicare Advantage (Part C) is a type of Medicare health plan offered by private insurance companies that contract with Medicare. These plans provide all of the Part A and Part B benefits of Original Medicare, and many offer additional benefits, such as dental, vision, and hearing coverage. Medicare Advantage plans also have different rules about how you can use your coverage, such as where you can see doctors and what kind of care you need to get a referral.
Points to Consider
Retain all of the Part A and Part B benefits of Traditional Medicare
Additional benefits, such as dental, vision, and hearing coverage
Lower out-of-pocket costs than Traditional Medicare
More flexibility in choosing doctors and hospitals
You may have to see doctors and go to hospitals that are in your plan's network
You may have to get a referral from your primary care doctor before seeing a specialist
You may have to pay more for certain services, such as prescription drugs (some plans may include Part D)
You must continue to remain in BOTH Medicare Part A and Part B while enrolled in your Medicare Advantage Plan
